A Poem to Our Mother: The Broken Chains
Momma we didn’t know that morning that God would be calling your name,
In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you the same,
Its’s only natural for our hearts to break at the thought of losing you,
But we know you did not leave here alone, for part of each of your children went with you.
Thank you, Momma, for giving us life, although we cannot see you we feel you near,
Momma our family chain is broken, nothing seems the same,
But we know God always honors his word and has assured us
he will call us one by one and restore our chain.
Asleep
I’ve closed my eyes and fallen asleep
So there’s no reason for you to weep,
This is a debt we all must pay.
I’ve endured pain and sometimes sorrow
Now I don’t have to worry about tomorrow,
But for you, life must go on
You must not worry because I’m gone.
You stood beside me all the way
When I was down you knew what to say.
You always told me to get some rest,
Let me sleep now, I’ve done my best.
So, please let me rest in peace,
The tears you’re shedding soon will cease.
You’ll soon realize that this was meant to be,
And I thank God because he came for me.
