Biography: Alphonso Newton, Sr. was born to Ophelia Newton and Charles Thompson on September 13, 1939 in Lima, Oklahoma. He and his twin brother, Alonzo Newton (still living) was the oldest of seven children. He was raised in Seminole, Oklahoma and attended Seminole High School. While attending high school, he worked at Hermans Pig Stand as a cook, along with other duties. He later moved to Oklahoma City where he began his career as a Chef. He was the Head Chef for many years at 89er Inn & Tradewinds Motel. He was known to many as Al. As an entrepreneur, he was the owner/operator of Als Drive Inn located at 23rd & Eastern for 17 years. Alphonso united in marriage to Juaquitta Delce in 1962. To this union five children were born: Alphonso Jr. (Yogi), Jeffery, Michael, Wade and Angelique. Alphonso was very generous, loving and caring toward his children, siblings and friends. Alphonso Newton was preceded in death by his mother, Ophelia Newton; father, Charles Thompson; son, Adam Newton; grandson, Nathan Newton; two brothers, Edward Newton and Rufus McCoy, Jr. Alphonso leaves to cherish his memories, three sons: Jeffery Newton (Kathy) of Arlington, Texas; Alphonso Newton, Jr. (Yogi); Michael Newton and daughter, Angelique Bills, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two brothers: Alonzo Newton, Sr. and Quinton McCoy of Oklahoma City; two sisters: Cardelia McCoy and Sherlyn Whitaker (Billy) of Oklahoma City; one stepsister, Betty Patterson of Oklahoma City; sixteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
