Arthur Pendleton Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Arthur Pendleton Jr.
March 17, 1949 – December 6, 2024

Arthur Pendleton Jr., affectionately known as "Butch," "AP," "Arthur," "Dad," "Brother," and "Pawpaw," peacefully answered God's call to eternal rest on Friday, December 6, 2024. Born on March 17, 1949, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to  Arthur Pendleton Sr. and Marie Carol Allen, Butch was a beloved son, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.

Raised in the heart of Southwest Oklahoma City, fondly referred to as “South Town,” Butch was the eldest and only son in a family full of love and laughter with five sisters. He shared a close bond with his family, cherishing the wisdom of his grandmothers, Enola Gentry-Brewer and Madie Scarborough, and the nurturing guidance of his stepmother, Charlesetta Pendleton.

A man of unwavering faith, Butch accepted Christ at an early age and actively supported his church. At Cook’s Chapel CME Church, later known as Sykes CME Church, he served faithfully in the youth choir and as a junior usher. His dedication to his faith community was a testament to his servant's heart and love for God.

Education was a cornerstone of Butch’s life. He began at Woodson Elementary before transitioning to Little Flower Catholic School and St. Joseph Catholic School, thanks to his father’s commitment to providing the best opportunities for his children. He later attended Central High School, where he excelled in sports, particularly football and basketball, and participated in community athletics at Woodson Community Center.

During his time at Central High, Butch met and later married Christine Hodges, and from their union came his eldest daughter, Cherise. He was also the proud father of Ronnie Ligons (Spencer, OK), Enola Pendleton (Little Rock, AR), and Ann Pendleton (Oklahoma City).

Butch’s work ethic was unparalleled, a value instilled in him by his father, who taught him the craft of shoe repair. He worked alongside his father at Uptown Shoe Repair for many years. His dedication to honesty and integrity guided his professional journey, which included positions as a security guard at the OU Medical Complex and other facilities serving troubled youth. Butch’s compassionate spirit and willingness to listen left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered, particularly the young people he mentored.

In his final days, Butch was surrounded by the love and care of his family, especially his son Ronnie and wife Veronica, whose unwavering support brought him great comfort. A special acknowledgment is extended to his brother, Anthony Moorehead, for initiating a family text chain that kept everyone connected and informed during Butch’s health journey. The family also thanks the Hospice Care Group and the countless friends and relatives who provided compassionate care and support.

Preceding him in death are his mother, Marie Moorehead; stepmother, Charlesetta Pendleton; granddaughter, Electa Ivery; sister, Beverly Pendleton-Reid; and a host of cherished relatives.

Butch leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will be celebrated by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, loving father Arthur Pendleton Sr., brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

As we bid farewell to Butch, we honor a life well-lived, filled with kindness, humility, and a commitment to lifting others up. May his memory continue to inspire us all.

God Bless.
