Biography: Channie Charlene Edwards Granny was born April 6, 1917 in Birmingham, Alabama to Alexander Green and Julia Green. She had two sisters and five brothers. Her parents died when she was a child and she and her siblings were raised by their aunt, Emma Redding in Pratt City, Alabama. Her siblings preceded her in death, and also Aunt Emma. Channie attended Industrial High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She accepted Christ as a teenager when she was in the choir of First Baptist Church in Pratt City, Alabama. Channie married Joe E. Edwards, Sr., who preceded her in death. Five children were born to that union; twins: Julius Frank Edwards (deceased) and Juliette Christine Whitfield of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; twins: Joe Edwards, Jr. (deceased) and George Edwards of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Minnie Collins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a loving stepdaughter, Margueritte Robinson of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The family moved from Alabama to Detroit, Michigan where her husband became a minister of the Nazarene faith, and she became a Nazarene. Because of his ministry and singing, they traveled many places. They later moved to Cleveland, Ohio and Memphis, Tennessee before coming to Oklahoma City in 1955 where he started the Providence Nazarene Church, where she was a member until death. Channie loved to cook for her family. She also loved to sew for her family. Her specialty was those Homemade Buttered Yeast Rolls. She was a loving mother and housewife, always doing for her family. She was known as Granny to her grandchildren. She had 24 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren. Her survivors include her daughters: Juliette Christine Whitfield and Minnie Collins of Oklahoma City; stepdaughter: Margueritte Robinson of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; her son, George Edwards of Oklahoma City; and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews and friends.
