Life Reflections

Cleo Jackson was a pillar of strength, creativity, and unwavering love. Born on January 26, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Elnora Hogg Jackson and Leo Jackson Sr., Cleo was raised in a household built on faith, discipline, and a deep appreciation for family. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and younger brother, Marvin Elmo Jackson.

From an early age, Cleo demonstrated quiet resilience and a gift for artistic expression. A proud graduate of the historic Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1963, he cherished his alma mater and remained deeply connected to his classmates throughout his life. His pursuit of excellence continued at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, where he earned a degree in Graphic Design and Art—a reflection of his passion for capturing the beauty of the world around him.

Following his college years, Cleo answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army and proudly serving from 1967 to 1969. He carried the discipline and sense of duty he gained in the military into every aspect of his life.

Cleo's professional journey was as multifaceted as his talents. He worked for Crane Carrier Corporation in Tulsa before following his heart into the field of education. As an in-house teacher at Central High School, Cleo became a mentor to countless students, shaping young lives with patience and wisdom. He retired from Tulsa Public Schools in 2007, leaving behind a legacy of care and dedication.

A man of deep faith, Cleo was a devoted member of St. John AME Church in Tulsa. His spirituality was the quiet compass of his life, guiding him through triumphs and trials alike.

Cleo’s love for family was at the center of who he was. Whether he was cracking jokes, honking his car horn to say hello, or handing out his artwork, his joy was contagious. He brought laughter to every room, and his signature style—complete with Thunder gear and a smile—made him unforgettable.

His talent as an artist was truly divine. Cleo’s paintings were not just images on canvas; they were windows into his soul. His masterpieces adorned churches, homes, and funeral chapels throughout Oklahoma, each piece leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who received them.

In 2022, Cleo moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to his big brother, Leo. At Bellevue Nursing Facility, he found a new chapter of joy—building community, winning bingo games, receiving monthly haircuts, and even being crowned Prom King. He embraced this new home with the same spirit of gratitude and warmth that defined his life.

Cleo’s passing leaves a profound void, but his legacy lives on through those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his devoted brother Leo Jackson (Mablelene); cherished nieces Renee’ Brown and Leah Jackson (Ernie); great-nieces Nia Jackson (Johnathan) and Jacora Sargent (Bruce); great-nephews Journey Jensen and Nyles Jackson; great-great niece Nylee Schnaufer; and a host of cousins, classmates, lifelong friends, and the Bellevue family who loved him dearly.

A Brother’s Love

A brother’s love,
A bond so deep,
Now just memories I keep.
Though gone from sight,
Your spirit bright,
Will shine forever in my heart’s soft light.

Until we meet again.
— Love, your brother June
