Donnell Stubbs Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Donnell Gardner Stubbs

"Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord." – Matthew 25:23

Donnell Gardner Stubbs, affectionately known as "Donnie," was a beacon of love, faith, and service. Born on July 4, 1954, to the late Othel and Mina Mae Gardner, Donnell's life began in Wellston, Oklahoma, where her light first shone brightly in her family, community, and school. She graduated from Wellston High School with the Class of 1972, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, leadership, and joy.

A trailblazer in her youth, Donnell maintained perfect attendance throughout her school years and was a vibrant part of her school community. She excelled as an athlete on the basketball team, cheered with enthusiasm, and led as the President of the Glee Club for two years. Her passion for learning and leadership extended beyond the classroom, as she participated in Upward Bound, FHA, VICA, and Vo-Tech.

Donnell's pursuit of education led her to St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where she earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Special Education/Mental Retardation Technology in 1974. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Kirkwood Stubbs, and together they built a foundation of love and faith. On October 31, 1975, Donnell and Kirkwood were joined in holy matrimony, creating a legacy of love and devotion through their three sons, DeAnté, André, and RaShaun.

A woman of diverse talents and relentless dedication, Donnell lived a life of service, enriching the lives of others through her work at the United States Postal Service, SBC (later AT&T), and Moore Public Schools. In every role, she brought warmth, joy, and a spirit of excellence. Her colleagues and friends admired her lively personality and treasured the friendships she nurtured.

Faith was the cornerstone of Donnell’s life. She began her spiritual journey at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Wellston and later became a devoted member of Antioch Institutional Baptist Church, Greater Trinity Baptist Church, and Prospect Church, where she faithfully served in the Music Ministry, Food/Kitchen Ministry, and Building Fund Committee. Her unwavering commitment to her faith inspired all who knew her, and her love for God radiated in every aspect of her life.

Donnell’s joy for life was reflected in her passions. She was an avid bowler, participating in leagues and tournaments, and a gifted cook whose holiday meals brought family and friends together around the table. Her love for sports was undeniable as she cheered for her favorite teams—the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Cowboys, and Oklahoma City Thunder—with unmatched enthusiasm.

Above all, Donnell was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. Her sense of humor, bold personality, and boundless love will forever be cherished by those who knew her.

Donnell was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Othel and Mina Mae Gardner; her husband, Kirkwood Stubbs; and her brother, William Leroy Gardner.

She leaves to honor her memory her three sons: DeAnté Stubbs, André Stubbs, and RaShaun Stubbs; a special niece, Telecia Miles (Terrance); her siblings: Gwendolyn Robertson, Othella “Punkin” McIntosh, Othel Gardner Jr. (Joyce), Layola Long, Carolyn “Cal” Johnson, and Sherry Gardner; her grandchildren: Trystan Smith, Deja’ Stubbs, and Devin Stubbs; her great-grandson, O’Zias Veasley; and a host of loving relatives and dear friends who will carry her legacy forward.

Donnell Gardner Stubbs lived a life of purpose, rooted in faith, family, and love. Her memory will forever shine brightly in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Rest well, Donnie, in the arms of your Savior. You have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.
