Celebrating the Life of
Larry Douglas, Sr.
October 14, 1951 – August 5,2025
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." – 2 Timothy 4:7
Larry Douglas, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, transitioned from this life to his eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy deeply rooted in faith, family, and service. Born on October 14, 1951, in Wetumka, Oklahoma, to the late Lela Mae Watson-Douglas Phillips and Archie Douglas Sr., Larry was nurtured in a home filled with love, hard work, and an unwavering trust in God.
Raised on the family farm, Larry learned early the value of integrity, perseverance, and caring for others. He attended public schools in Okfuskee County, graduating from Bearden High School in 1970, and later furthered his education at Oscar Rose State College.
In 1971, Larry was drafted into the United States Army, where he honorably served as a Specialist/E4, trained as both a Sharpshooter and a Sniper. His time in the military was marked by courage and commitment, qualities that would define his walk through life.
Following his service to our nation, Larry embarked on a long and steady career, working at Tinker Air Force Base for nearly two decades, later with Unit Parts, Mid-Del Schools, and Ala Carte Courier until his retirement in 2023. He approached every job with the same dedication he showed in every area of his life.
In 1974, Larry met the love of his life, Tina Yvonne Morris, and together they raised two children—Luvanique “Nikkie” and Larry “Boogie” Jr.—who were the pride of his heart. He later married Janice Jones in 1998. His family was his joy, and he never ceased to be a source of love, encouragement, and wisdom. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was “Paw Paw”—their hero, storyteller, and gentle giant.
Larry’s life was rich with talents and passions. He coached Little League teams, sang in the Paradise Men’s Gospel Quartet, painted cars with the precision of an artist, and fixed engines with the skill of a master mechanic. He found joy in fishing, cooking, playing baseball, and gathering with friends and family—often in his brother David’s “Man Cave,” where laughter flowed as freely as the stories.
His faith was his foundation. From his early membership at New Hope Baptist Church under Rev. W.E. Watts to his later service at the Church of the Living God P.G.T. and Paradise Baptist Church, Larry walked with the Lord. Whether driving the church bus, singing praises, or encouraging others, his Christian witness shined brightly.
Larry’s warm spirit, generous heart, and easy humor touched everyone he met. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Nikkie (Antjuan) and Boogie (Laurie); grandchildren Gerrika Holliday, Ny'Quan Douglas, Akeelah Howard-Douglas, Ennacents Douglas, Bryce Yearby, Skylarr Yearby, Anton, Jordell, and Jakyrah; great-grandchildren Roxanne & Remiah, Raven Robinson, and Balen Douglas; siblings Jacquline Johnson (Edward), Brenda Akins (Patrick), Josphine “Josie” Ford (Cedrick), David Douglas (Lenora), and Archie Douglas Jr. (Sheila); his beloved companion, Sandra James; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He now joins in glory those who preceded him—his parents, brother Nathaniel Douglas (Sena), sister Glenda French, and many other dear family and friends—resting in the arms of the Savior he loved so well.
Larry often said, “Life is full of all kinds of moments—choose the ones you want to remember and live life to the fullest. I’m going to live life until I die.” And so he did.
Rest well, Paw Paw. Your work here is done. Your race is won. We will carry forward your love, your laughter, and your faith until we meet again.
