Larry Shelton Obituary

Larry David Shelton peacefully passed away on March 14, 2021 in Georgetown, Texas.  The biological son of the late Fielder Johnson and Lena Mae (Jackson) Shelton, Larry was born at the family home of his step father, the late Coleman Young Shelton and his mother in Temple Oklahoma on January 9, 1951.  He was the eleventh of twelve children.  Seven of his siblings preceded him in death, George Shelton, Oscar Cooper, Coleman Young Shelton Jr, Willie “Steve” Shelton, Jesse Shelton, Ruth Ella DeBose and Theresa Shelton.

Larry attended Moon Middle School where he met the love of his life, Joanne Cole.  Larry would go on to attend Douglass High School where he and Joanne would marry on November 12, 1969.  They remained married for 51 years until his death.  To this union three children were born.  His youngest son, Kevin LaDon Shelton preceded him in death.

After receiving training as a sheet metal operator, Larry began employment at Governair Corporation on September 21, 1978.  Soon after, he was promoted to a supervisory position.  He remained a loyal, dedicated employee for the next 34 years until he retired in 2012.

Larry received the Lord at an early age but made the decision to rededicate his life after uniting with Revival Worship Center under the leadership of Pastor Roderick Lewis.  After several years, Pastor Lewis ordained Larry as a deacon on July 22, 2007.  Larry would continue his ministry service as a deacon and an usher after uniting with New Harvest Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor James Covington.

In August 2018, Larry moved to Georgetown, Texas where he peacefully enjoyed earthly rest from all his work until God called him home for his eternal rest.

Larry leaves behind to mourn his passing and celebrate his legacy his wife Joanne, two children son Darrell (Crystal) Shelton, Pembroke Pines, FL; daughter Dochelle (David) Allison, Round Rock, TX; one uncle Monroe Jackson, Ft. Worth, TX; one aunt Elzadie “Berneice” Jackson, Lawton, OK; four sisters, Johnnie Mae “JoAnn” Shelton, Wilda “Kay Lou” Cooper, Theodoris “Doris” Shelton, and Priscilla Watson all of Oklahoma City; a half-brother Willie Johnson, Saraland, AL; a half-sister Victoria “Vicki” Washington, Seattle, WA; eight grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; and his dearly beloved dog Awesome.
