Obituary

Minnie Janestene (Jenny) Edwards was born a twin to Bertha and William Lawson Brooks, Sr. on January 1, 1939, in Stroud, Oklahoma. She attended primary and secondary school at the Stroud Separate School where she was a member of the basketball, softball, and track teams as well as a participant in all school-related activities.

(Jenny) accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Stroud Baptist Church.  She later attended Solid Rock Church of God in Christ and Peoples Church in Oklahoma City.

(Jenny) married the love of her life, Harold Wayne Edwards (Wayne), on April 08, 1960. They were married for 58 years and to this union four children were born: three daughters; Joyce, Valerie, Leslie, and one son Ronald.
(Jenny) worked at Western Electric Company on the assembly line before working for NuWay Laundry and Cleaners Services where she remained for 46 years.  After perfecting her craft on the shirt press line there, she became a shirt press trainer.  She continued her education at Metro Technology Center in the field of childcare development where she obtained her Certificate of Mastery as a childcare teacher. This accomplishment prepared her to fulfill a lifelong desire to work directly with children, especially babies. Her desire was realized when she became a valued staff member at Angel Touch Daycare.
(Jenny) will be remembered most for her love of "God,” a love that she instilled into her family and those around her. She enjoyed reading and teaching the bible to her children and grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved going on vacations, family outings, and attending cookouts; celebrating birthdays, during which she always gave the birthday person a ten-dollar roll of quarters.  (Jenny) also enjoyed cooking and baking. Her fried chicken was highly acclaimed by those who tasted it as being good enough to eat cold; her banana cream pie as mouth-watering.
(Jenny) is preceded in death by her mother, Bertha (Goode) Brooks;  father, William Lawson Brooks, Sr. (Willy); husband, Harold Wayne Edwards (Wayne); older sisters, Lois L. Canfield and Thelma Brooks-Jones; twin sister, Winnie Dean Brooks Bridges (Doris); brothers, William Lawson Brooks, Jr. (Bill) and Donald R. Brooks (Don); grandson, Keith D. Larkins, Jr., and two nieces and two nephews.
Minnie Janestene (Jenny) Edwards departed this life on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She will be deeply missed.

(Jenny) is remembered by her three daughters: Joyce Jacqueline Thomas (Henry), Valerie Elaine Edwards-Brown (Chris), and Leslie Ann Edwards; one son, Ronald Wayne Edwards (Gail);  grandchildren: Michael Edwards (Kanekka), Cherie Grayson (Anthony), Robin Garcia (Richard), Jennifer Larkins (Ruben), Christopher Brown III, Kachet Blair (Arthur), Summer Larkins, Share Amuda (Ade), Mikah Edwards, Jordan Edwards (Ashley), Kamari Edwards; 25 great grandchildren and a host of family, friends, and loved ones.
