Sterling Joseph "Joe Joe" Glispie, Jr.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sterling Joseph Glispie, Jr., better known as "Joe Joe". Born on May 22, 1958, in Bronx, New York, to the late Sterling Joseph Glispie, Sr., and Beatrice Glispie, Joe Joe was a vibrant soul whose presence was a source of joy and comfort to many.
The Glispie family moved to Southern California, where Joe Joe spent his youth and attended Cerritos High School. A man of diverse interests and endless curiosity, Joe Joe embarked on various educational and career paths throughout his life. His eclectic spirit led him to explore many fields, but his heart truly belonged to street ministry.
Embracing the call to serve, Joe Joe was a familiar and welcoming figure on the streets of Los Angeles. He dedicated himself to preaching the gospel, providing solace, hope, and the light of God's love to the homeless and passersby alike. His mission was not just to speak the words of faith but to live them, extending help and compassion without reservation.
Seeking closeness with family, Joe Joe relocated to Oklahoma City, where he continued to touch lives. He exuded an easy, open friendliness that drew people to him, and he found joy in participating in local church services, sharing his love for God with a community that came to cherish him.
The passing of Joe Joe creates an irreplaceable loss in the lives of his loving family. Mourning his departure are his mother, Beatrice Gillis; his brother, Michael Glispie; his sister, Tina Lester and her husband, Michael; along with numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins, each of whom shared a unique bond with Joe Joe.
Joe Joe was welcomed into the next life by his father, Sterling Joseph Glispie, Sr., and his grandparents, who preceded him in death. While they rejoice in their heavenly reunion, we grapple with the silence left in the wake of Joe Joe's departure.
His legacy of faith, love, and relentless belief in the goodness of humanity will continue to resonate and inspire. Rest in peace, Joe Joe; your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
